Here is a list of tools and tips on writing.
- Begin sentences with subjects and verbs close together. Your writing becomes clear and powerful.
- Use verbs in their strongest form. Strong verbs create action, save words, and reveal the players. This is the best way to describe active voice versus passive.
- Use shorter sentences - these can have a more profound effect than wordy sentences.
Play with words - break away from clichés and trite sayings.
- Describe what you feel and see - don't just tell.
- Describe the characters in detail - give your readers a reason to care.
- Use your voice - make sure your writing sounds like you.
- When writing your story think of the setting, the action and the dialogue.
- Remember: Who becomes character; What becomes action: Where becomes setting; When becomes chronology.
- End your story on a high note, whenever possible.
